Church Detail
Detail of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Construction started in 1163 and took nearly two centuries to complete. The ground it stands on has been sacred to Christians for 2000 years. The Church encouraged it, kings paid for it but common men built it — stone masons, glaziers carpenters, iron smiths, sculptures, laborers. Solemn, solid, and very spooky inside. I can imagine being there before electricity to hear sermons of fire and brimstone and eternal damnation.
