GAUDI SCULPTURE, BARCELONA: Detail from the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi. Begun in 1882, the church is still under construction and will not be completed until at least 2050, if ever. I was struck by the contemporary ambiguity of the sculpture that adorns the exterior walls. Despite the busy streets and hordes of tourists, I found the unfinished structure the ideal site for moral and spiritual contemplation.
