OLD BOTTLES, Chateau la Nerthe. The Rhone Valley is dotted with vineyards, carpeted with orchards of olive, pear, cherry and apricot with oceans of lavender and fields of melon. A gardener rakes mammoth piles of crisp leaves from beneath century old trees. To the left is an aged fountain with water barely but noisily dripping into an extensive stone basin. To the right is the large stone chateau with its broad sweeping terrace. The veranda is dotted with sturdy iron tables and chairs; huge French doors accent the front of the chateau. If one had to live in the south of France, this would be idyllic.
